Companies split over Plan S proposal on achieving more equitable publishing prices through purchasing-power scaling

Major scholarly publishers are divided over a suggestion that their industry should use prices based on purchasing-power parity to make them more globally equitable.

This month, the funders behind the Plan S open-access initiative launched a draft proposal on a globally fair pricing framework for academic publishing amid concern that the shift to open access is causing inequities.
