Innovation Union fails to convince regions

Only one of the 12 themes in the Innovation Union initiative has made significant progress, a survey by the Committee of the Regions has found.

The survey found that eight themes had made “some progress” and three—a single innovation market, increasing social benefits and enhancing access to finance for innovative companies—showed "no visible progress". Only the theme Focusing EU funding instruments on Innovation Union Priorities had been advanced significantly, the committee said.

The results of the survey were discussed at a conference on the innovation union held by CoR on 27 November, which also heard that there were significant gaps in innovation between the regions.
