Finns win innovation prize for allergy vaccine

The European Association of Research and Technology Organisations has awarded its annual innovation prize to Finnish researchers for their work on allergy vaccines.

The recognition award was presented to the VTT Technical Research Centre at a ceremony on 4 December in Brussels. The recipients have developed a vaccine that could be used to tackle common immune conditions including hayfever and pet allergies.

Presenting the award, the chief scientific adviser to the European Commission’s president Anne Glover said that innovation prizes were an important component of European research policy, to broadcast successes in technological advances. “Europe is too modest about its achievements in science and technology,” she said.
