R&D state aid under scrutiny

The European Commission is consulting on revised plans for member states to grant state aid for research, development and innovation activities.

The proposed framework on state aid for R&D&I is meant to make the process more effective, with fewer distortions of competition and less red tape, said Joaquín Almunia, Commission vice president in charge of competition policy. The consultation closes on 17 February.

The state aid on R&D&I framework is complementary to the General Block Exemption Regulation, which sets the conditions for certain state aid measures. A consultation on the GBER was launched on 18 December.
