Clinical trials data access agreements come into force

Researchers will be able to apply for access to clinical trials data for drugs approved in the EU and the US from the beginning of this year.

A joint agreement on sharing trial data between the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America came into force on 1 January.

This allows researchers to apply to access patient level data, protocols and clinical study reports. However, this only applies to medicines approved in the US and the EU after that date.
