Innovation in public bodies needs a joined-up approach

Europe must overhaul its policy framework on innovation in government and the civil service to produce better-coordinated initiatives, according to a European Commission report.

Powering European Public Sector Innovation: Towards a new architecture, published by the European Commission’s expert group on public sector innovation, makes a series of recommendations on how to improve the situation in the EU.

The report also identifies the main barriers to public bodies and organisations harnessing innovative ideas, which includes a lack of innovation leadership, limited knowledge of innovative processes, and “insufficiently precise or systematic” use of data.
