The European Commission wants city administrations, companies and organisations to publicise their plans to boost innovation in ICT, energy and transport, and speed up the growth of so-called smart cities.
In a statement on 28 February, the Commission said that this would help others learn from their experiences and would help build an “open planning movement”.
This would contribute to various European smart city networks, such as the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities, it said. The best plans are to be featured in a promotion of the initiative in June 2014.
