Businesses should do more innovation on products and services that will help societies adapt to climate change, according to a cluster of research institutes.
Climate-KIC, a branch of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology that links companies with universities and governments, has responded to the Fifth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, published on 31 March. The KIC said that companies should take measures to adapt to the changing environmental situation and to better predict the impact of climate change on their resources.
“We need to translate climate models into variables that are relevant to businesses and public bodies and will help them with their adaptation strategies,” said Wouter Buytaert, a researcher at Imperial College London who is involved in the KIC.
