The European Association of Research and Technology Organisations has lent its support to commissioner Carlos Moedas’ idea of establishing a European Innovation Council.
In a paper setting out recommendations on the establishment of the EIC for the European Commission, published on 10 December, Earto says that it “strongly supports” the proposal, describing it as necessary for improving Europe’s innovation performance relative to global competitors.
The EIC should support excellent innovation in the same way that the European Research Council supports excellent research, Earto says. This should involve developing an integrated innovation strategy, clarifying the targets of existing instruments and identifying gaps in existing actions, it specifies.
