Science Europe, the group representing national research agencies, has released a set of recommendations on how best to use big data in health research.
The recommendations include one calling for the incorporation of more lifestyle and environmental information into genomic datasets, in order to aid clinical research. Another calls for the creation of more centralised healthcare databases on a national level. The healthcare databases of Brazil, Denmark and Scotland were praised for the benefits the large volume of data they contain could bring to healthcare research.
The report also calls for the monitoring of current big data projects, such as the Human Brain Project, in order to create a set of best practices for future use.
