A Franco-Italian agreement has been signed on scientific cooperation to boost research on marine ecosystems and seafloor monitoring.
The deal was signed by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, and the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea, on 25 February, during a bilateral summit held in Paris which focused on scientific cooperation.
As part of the agreement, the two institutes will work to develop further their existing seafloor multidisciplinary observatories, aimed at the study of marine ecosystems and biodiversity. According to Paul Favali, research director at the INGV, the deal will soon lead to joint research projects.
