A clinical trial that was taking place in a private institution in France has been halted after one participant was left brain dead by what the French ministry of health is calling a “serious accident”.
The individual is now in intensive care, the French Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Women’s Rights said in a statement on 15 January. Five other participants have also been hospitalised as a result of the accident.
The study was a phase-1 clinical trial of an oral drug taking place at a licensed private institution using healthy volunteers, the ministry said. It added that it has decided to conduct a technical inspection of the site.
