EU research commissioner Carlos Moedas has said he will seek a more user and society-focused approach to innovation, as he progresses plans for a European Innovation Council.
Speaking at a Brussels event this morning, Moedas said the EU needs to ensure that the positive impacts of innovation are felt across society—in recognition of that fact that, while globalisation has generally been positive for development, the benefits have not been felt by all.
“Something in the diffusion of innovation is not working,” he said. “Inclusive innovation is about the citizen. Inclusiveness will require us to [translate the effects], from top to bottom.”
