The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has selected the 50-member FoodConnects team to set up a food-based Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC).
The winning bid to set up the EIT’s new food innovation cluster was made by FoodConnects, a consortium of 50 partners—including PepsiCo, the Fraunhofer Institute, the University of Cambridge and the Polish Academy of Science—based across 13 EU countries.
The team will receive a starting grant of up to €4 million to crank up innovation in the European food sector by setting up EIT-Food, the sixth EIT KIC. This will potentially be followed by a further €400 million over the next seven years.
