EU bank approves funding for research and energy projects

The European Investment Bank has backed six research and energy projects under the latest round of financing from the European Fund for Strategic Investments.

The EIB’s board approved Efsi financing of €590 million for the six projects yesterday. The investment will support hospital and healthcare research in Romania, France and Italy; university research in Latvia; corporate R&D in Italy; and the development of small businesses in Spain.

The allocation for research and energy was just part of a total of €4.1 billion in financing approved by the EIB board. The bulk of this was allocated to infrastructure projects, including upgrades for the Warsaw metro.
