The European Patent Office and its Eurasian counterpart have teamed up to create a pilot programme to fast-track applications.
Under the programme, which is expected to launch in the second half of 2017, applicants whose claims have been found to be patentable by either the EPO or the EAPO will be able to ask for their application to be accelerated by the other office.
The two offices will share the results of their work to speed up the granting process and reduce costs for applicants, the EPO announced on 28 April. The agreement to establish the pilot was signed in Munich by the EPO’s president Benoît Battistelli and EAPO’s president Saule Tlevlessova.
