The European Commission is seeking to expand its access to sensitive corporate data, with the intention of detecting abuses of EU law.
A regulation published by the Commission on 2 May would, if approved, enable it to request sensitive information about corporations to help it improve the EU single market and ensure citizens’ rights are protected, the Commission said.
Currently there is no incentive for member states to share such information, and the EU lacks the resources and instruments to request it, the Commission explained.
