The European Commission’s industrial policy strategy outlines greater support for regional reforms and more cooperation between EU institutions, regional authorities and industry.
The Commission’s communication on the strategy, called Investing in a Smart, Innovative and Sustainable Industry, will be formally launched on 18 September but was published on Wednesday to coincide with Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker’s annual state of the union address.
It says that “important efforts” are needed by EU institutions, EU member states and industry itself to make Europe an industrial leader in this “age of globalisation, sustainability challenges and rapid technological change”.
