EU13 institutions form health R&D alliance

Ten research institutions from nine of the EU’s newest 13 member states have banded together to improve the management of health R&D in central and eastern Europe.

Alliance4Life says that it intends to help research institutions in central and eastern Europe catch up with the rest of the continent on health research and innovation by sharing best practice among themselves, setting an example to others and lobbying at national and EU levels.

“Institutions gathered in this alliance believe that improving governance and managerial practices as well as transforming institutional culture will enhance efficiency and increase return on investment,” the alliance says. “Alliance4Life intends to become a role model for institutions in less-performing regions and to serve as a hub of excellence through close collaboration with renowned European networks established in high-performing countries.”
