Extra money expected to increase European Space Agency contracts for Spanish companies

Spain will contribute €587 million more to the budget of the European Space Agency for 2020-26 than its government previously planned, under a move approved by ministers on 8 November.

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities said the increase to a maximum of €260m per year would strengthen the competitiveness of Spanish companies, as ESA guarantees the proportional return of national contributions through industry contracts. Spain gains 2.1 euros in contracts for every euro it contributes to ESA, it said.
