Advances in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence require a delicate balance between protecting intellectual property and allowing innovation to flourish, the industry association Business Europe has warned.
AI, data management, 5G communications, the internet of things and 3D printing all present challenges for intellectual property rights that need to be considered in EU policy discussions, Business Europe said in a report published on 16 September.
The association urged EU legislators to “ensure continuous efforts to achieve a good balance between strong IP protection, on the one hand, and legal certainty to encourage new technologies, on the other hand”.
