Medical project warns Europe is ‘unprepared’ for cell therapies

Scientists and research managers need interdisciplinary training, says LifeTime initiative

Universities in Europe are not in a position to equip researchers with the knowledge and skills they need to develop new forms of treatments that could help prevent people becoming seriously ill, an EU-funded research project has warned.

The LifeTime initiative, an EU project focused on cell-based medicines used early in the progression of diseases, said in a strategic research agenda published on 26 October that “most higher-education European institutions are currently unprepared” for the challenge of equipping researchers “due to limited training opportunities and scarcity of experts”.
