MEPs call for bolstered EU health programme to fund research

Programme should promote research into medical products such as antimicrobials and vaccines, MEPs say

MEPs have agreed they want the EU’s 2021-27 health programme to use its bigger budget to support medical research.

A provisional agreement reached by the European Parliament and national governments in the Council of the EU on 10 November set the budget for the EU4Health programme at €5.1 billion, up from the €1.7bn national leaders said they wanted in July, but down from the €9.4bn originally proposed by the European Commission.
