Unitary patent system ‘one step closer’ after German vote

European Patent Office president hails ratification of court agreement by Germany’s lower house

Long-delayed plans to set up a pan-European patent system have moved closer to fruition, with Germany’s lower house of parliament approving a draft bill ratifying the system’s planned Unified Patent Court.

“Today’s approval by the Bundestag brings us an important step closer to the much-anticipated implementation of the Unitary Patent,” European Patent Office (EPO) president António Campinos said after the 26 November vote.
