
Bright ideas for a digital revolution ‘fall short’, European university leader says
The European Commission’s proposal that the EU should build a flagship ‘lighthouse’ centre for research on artificial intelligence has come under further criticism from a senior figure in academia, after Research Professional News reported opposition to the plan among some AI specialists.
“Europe must connect its ambition of being a digital leader with initiatives already happening at its universities,” Amanda Crowfoot, secretary general of the European University Association, said in an opinion piece for The Parliament magazine published on 30 March. “The challenges that we are facing do not need a lighthouse.”
