Piecemeal R&D funding will not have desired impact, says Christian Ehler

The EU needs to spend more on technology research and innovation, and in a more joined up way, if it is to meet its economic, political and industrial goals, according to one of the MEPs leading on the legislation for the bloc’s 2021-27 R&D programme, Horizon Europe.

In a position paper written on behalf of members of the European Parliament research committee who belong to the European People’s Party political group, Ehler—the EPP’s lead on the committee—criticised what he described as a lack of coherence to the European Commission’s proposal for the 2021-27 EU budget and €750 billion Covid-19 recovery fund.
