Funding shift will see 42 companies receive €178m in first direct investments in startups
The European Commission has announced that it will pay €178 million for shares in R&D-intensive startup companies, making such equity investments for the first time as part of attempts to broaden the ways the EU supports innovation.
The money is the Commission’s first ever direct equity investment in startups, it said, and is being channelled through the EU’s European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund.
