France and Germany account for lion’s share of increase, with overall spending target missed
Spending on defence research and technology among the 26 member states of the European Defence Agency rocketed by 46 per cent between 2019 and 2020, reaching a record €2.5 billion, according to the agency.
The spike in spending was driven by France and Germany, which between them accounted for more than 90 per cent of the increase, the EDA announced on 6 December. Its members include all EU member states except Denmark.
