Public-private R&D ‘paramount’ to EU industrial strategy

Industrial alliances in key areas will help EU avoid foreign dependencies, Commission says

The EU’s governments must work more closely with industry on R&D to enable the bloc to reduce its socioeconomic dependence on other global powers, according to a proposed update to its industrial strategy.

The European Commission unveiled the update to its 2020 strategy on 5 May, framing it as a response to the changes wrought on EU societies and economies by the Covid-19 pandemic.
