European Investment Bank head wants more cash for innovation

Werner Hoyer says European investment “urgently” needed in more areas, including clean technologies and antimicrobials

Werner Hoyer, the president of the European Investment Bank, has said the continent must rapidly ramp up its spending on innovation if it is to cope with future crises.

Europe is investing “far too little” to address major challenges, such as climate change, said the man who leads the official lending arm of the European Union.
