Commission wants EU R&D to help lead on tech standards

Broader objectives include making EU industry more globally competitive and technology more values-based

The development of global standards on technologies from wifi to ski bindings should be led by EU researchers, according to a European Commission strategy paper on standardisation and its role in technology and trade.

The aims of the strategy include making EU-based companies more globally competitive, aiding the EU in its digital and green transitions and “[enshrining] democratic values in technology applications”.
