EU seeks to become ‘major player’ in neurotechnology

Ministers sign declaration to support technologies that could influence thoughts and emotions, while protecting rights

EU ministers responsible for digitisation want the bloc to become a “major player” in neurotechnology—defined as devices and procedures that can monitor or manipulate the brain and nervous system.

There has been growing interest and investment in neurotechnology, which has the potential to develop new treatments for people with mental and neurological illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s, and to transform the entertainment sector.
