“Window of opportunity” opening for Europe to develop small modular reactors, says energy commissioner
The European Commission has announced the formation of an industrial alliance for small modular reactors to ensure the bloc’s global competitiveness in what some see as a key future technology for energy.
It hopes the move will help guarantee a skilled workforce for SMRs in Europe and speed up the use of the technology, as well as cementing an EU-based supply chain, as the bloc increasingly worries about energy independence.
