€1 billion investment “milestone” hailed by Commission after mixed year for funder

After a slightly rocky start, the European Innovation Council has handed out €1 billion to 159 research-oriented small companies since it started full operations in September last year.

Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said the EIC—part of the bloc’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme—was “empowering Europe’s brightest startups to grow, secure investments and emerge as global frontrunners in technologies pivotal for Europe’s journey towards a greener, digitally advanced future”.
