Patent office says new system is most important European patent development in decades

The European Patent Office is set to grant hundreds of Unitary Patents—a new form of European patent that is designed to make it easier and cheaper to protect intellectual property rights across the continent.

On 12 June the EPO announced its intention to grant 600 of the patents in the first batch since their launch on 1 June after over a decade of planning, development and delays.
