Bill seeks to enable SFI to support applied research

The government has published a bill that will radically alter the remit of research funding body Science Foundation Ireland.

It will end the prohibition on foundation support for applied research and will also allow it to begin funding researchers in any part of the island of Ireland, according to the Industrial Development (Science Foundation Ireland) (Amendment) Bill 2012 released on 12 December.
