Woman engineer to head research council

University College Dublin electronics engineer Orla Feely has been appointed chairwoman of the Irish Research Council, replacing the outgoing chairman, David Lloyd of Trinity College Dublin.

Feely is based in the school of electrical, electronic and communications engineering. Mathematician James Gleeson, from the University of Limerick’s Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry, was also appointed to the council.
