EPA clears way for GM field trials

The Environmental Protection Agency has sanctioned field trials of a genetically modified potato species to test its resistance to blight and assess any impacts on the wider environment.

Announced by the EPA on 25 July, the decision will cause consternation amongst environmental groups who oppose any use of GM technology in favour of promoting a “green” image for Ireland’s food production.
