Multinationals warn of skills shortage

Multinational companies in Ireland are experiencing a growing skills shortage and have difficulty filling jobs, but overall they remain confident about business trends, according to a survey of foreign-owned companies conducted by the Irish Management Institute and Danske Bank.

More than half of companies surveyed were struggling to find staff, with particular difficulties in engineering, software, language and technical skills, according to the study published on 12 November.

Even so, 43 per cent of respondents expect to see increasing turnover and 35 per cent expect to hire more staff, the survey said. About a third of the companies surveyed were going through changes in their business activities. These related to skills and expertise in 25 per cent of companies.
