State and industry funding worth €88 million has been announced for the development of Insight, the Centre for Data Analytics, a major research centre studying Big Data and information mining.

The centre, announced on 12 December, will receive €58m in state funding and €30m from 30 industrial partners and will bring together four universities, Dublin City University, National University of Ireland Galway, and University Colleges Cork and Dublin.

It will involve the work of 200 researchers and will allow Ireland to become an important player in the development of data analytics, jobs minister Richard Bruton said at the centre’s launch.
