Dublin works with China to set up innovation university

China has agreed to invest €300 million in a third level institution in partnership with University College Dublin. UCD Yantai will cater for up to 10,000 students starting in 2015.

UCD announced the deal, and that a 300-acre site in Yantai—a coastal city with a population of about eight million—had already been provided by officials in Shandong Province, on 16 December. It will be a joint venture with China Agricultural University.

The innovation-focused university is expected to open channels between UCD and China for student and academic exchange, the university said. It will also support Irish companies seeking to establish a foothold in the Chinese marketplace.
