Research awards announced for food and marine projects

The government has announced 51 research awards worth €26 million in agri-food, forestry and marine R&D that will provide training for 80 postgraduates and contract work for 90 scientists.

The awards span project values from €83,000 up to more than €1.2 million said agriculture minister Simon Coveney when making the announcement on 28 November.

Most of the awards go to scientists working in the agriculture research and advisory body Teagasc and a number of universities, particularly University College Dublin and University College Cork, that have large schools of agriculture.
