Publicly funded research data should be open access, forum hears

Scienctists must give others open access to their data across Europe, the director of the European Research Area has told a public forum on the issue in Dublin.

The Royal Irish Academy organised the event on 2 May to encourage discussion and debate about the merits of open access and the contribution it can make to the advancement of science.

Open access is an efficient way to circulate research findings within the ERA, its director Octavi Quintana-Trias told the meeting. It was how “science must and will be done”, he said.
