Policy advisers move to heart of government

Legislation has been published that will allow the planned merger of the policy and research advisory body Forfas with its host the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.

The merger will bring the high quality policymaking capabilities of Forfas “into the heart of government”, predicted jobs minister Richard Bruton on 23 December when the legislation was released. It will also strengthen the department’s ability to drive job-creation policy, he added.

The integration would allow the formation of a Strategic Policy Division within the department, Bruton said. The merger was part of a broader and ongoing reform of bodies associated with the department including the merger of the National Consumer Agency and the Competition Authority, he said.
