Ireland's Health Research Board has announced funding worth €13.5m for 36 health research projects running for between 3 and 5 years.

The research will focus on areas such as cancer, asthma and kidney injury, the board said in a statement on 29 October. Contracts have been signed and research is already underway with four projects that will receive up to €800,000 over 5 years and 32 awards of up to €330,000 lasting up to 3 years.

The projects will involve researchers in six of the seven Irish universities, as well as the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Athlone Institute of Technology.
