Athlone Institute of Technology has been designated an Enterprise Ireland technology gateway for applied polymer technologies, which will connect the institute more strongly to Ireland’s plastics industry.
The official opening of the gateway on 4 March took place during a major plastics conference at the institute. The gateways formalises a way for institute-based academics to link with related industries to encourage more collaborative research and innovation, said Enterprise Ireland.
The industry is estimated to contribute €2 billion a year to Ireland’s economy.
