Funding round for women in science opens

The call has opened for applications to the Advance Award programme, aimed at helping women to remain in, or return to, careers in the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Announced on 19 February and disbursed via Science Foundation Ireland, the awards are worth up to €175,000 over two years. Applicants should hold a PhD, MD or equivalent qualification and should not hold or have held a significant research award of greater than one year duration.

It is hoped the programme will help more women remain in research both in higher education but also industry, where only 26 per cent of researchers in the STEM areas are women, the Foundation said.
