Young technology-based companies are expected to deliver 1,850 jobs in Ireland in the next three years and generate significant export revenues following support from state body Enterprise Ireland, through the High Potential Start Ups (HPSU) programme.
The target was announced by jobs minister Richard Bruton as he released results from the 2013 HPSU programme on 19 February. The jobs will come from the 122 start-ups formed in 2013.
Enterprise Ireland provided funding for 103 of the 122 firms during 2013, the highest number yet supported in a single 12-month period, Enterprise Ireland said. Women led 41 of the projects, well up from 16 in 2012, and 15 per cent were started by business people from overseas.
