Professor of electronic engineering Orla Feely has been appointed vice-president for research, innovation and impact at University College Dublin, taking over from Des Fitzgerald.
Announced on 18 February, she will retain her role as chairwoman of the Irish Research Council. Her appointment was welcomed by minister of state for research Sean Sherlock who said she had shown strong leadership in delivering opportunities for Irish researchers.
Freely has a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has received three successive Science Foundation Ireland principal investigator awards.
