The Royal Irish Academy has presented Gold Medal Awards to an environmental scientist from National University of Ireland Galway and a geographer at National University of Ireland Maynooth.

The awards were presented at the Academy in Dublin on 20 February by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny. Recipient Colin O’Dowd, professor of physics at NUI Galway, is a specialist in atmospheric physics. Rob Kitchin is professor of geography at NUI Maynooth and focuses on space and mapping.

The government’s goal is to achieve economic recovery through education and innovation, Kenny said when congratulating the researchers.
